Very well written article and a great explanation for not spanking a 3 year old. But my feeling has always been that spanking is very useful and in some cases essential for the under 3 set. The last paragraph says, they recommend timeouts - I feel like timeout for 1 or 2 year old is very difficult and not effective in many situations esp. one where there is real immediate danger. If my child is running towards the street or about to touch the stove I say NO and if I don't get an instant response - I spank. I feel the message is very clear - if you don't listen you may get hurt. That is just what I want him to learn.
