This fall, Peggy Rick agreed that a good way to spend some of the cookie dough fund raising money would be to purchase digital cameras and docking printers for each classroom. All the coordinators feel that this will help as you document the children's a work. Documenting is a critical part of inquiry since it allows you to show others what the children are doing and collaborate with other teachers in thinking about your classroom work. It also allows you to visually "tell" parents what you did each day.
Over winter break, the cameras and printers were ordered. They should be here this week!!
But before you can take your camera and printer to your classroom, you need to post a comment on a way you will use this technology in your work. Once you've done that, the equipment is yours and then we will be waiting and watching to see what you're doing with it!
To paraphrase Garrison Keillor, go out and do good work.
Here's your provocation for this week...and we'd love to see some posted comments back on this and last week's provocation, too!
Question your certainties.

We love using our digital camera to document learning activities, special events (ie. field trips, parties, fun things in the room), and to help our parents feel better connected with what is going on in the classroom. We are looking forward to having an updated camera, and a more user-friendly printer. Thanks so much!
We love using phots of the children for games and activities, but don't do it too much because we do not have the technology at this time. We are so excited about this gift and plan to use it to update parents with photos as well as be able to post photos of what we are learning outside our room for everyone to see!
Thank you!!!!!
We will use the camera to "show" what the children and learning and doing. We will display photos in/out of the classroom using titles such as "Social and Emotional Development" or "Making Friends". There will be pics of the children in the dramatic play area, or of two friends reading a story to eachother in the book corner etc... We can use photos for most of the Early Childhood Indicators of Progress.
Thanks A Bunch! This will be a great benefit to our program!
We were given a digital camera, but it was stolen. Currently, we depend on Sharon's camera and when she is not here, we cannot take pictures. We would love to have a camera and printer to show parents what we do during the day, what we are learning and to document childrens' progress, We also will use the camera to show parents special events in the classroom. It is also fun to display photos in the hallway for all to see. Thank you for this opportunity!
Peggy Rick,I, will use the camera in the ECFE Infant room as a reflection of the small changes that happen each day with infants-2 year olds. I hope be be able to capture the parent with their child as well as the child alone to reflect those moments of learning. Kodak moments will bring a smile to our groups as we post them in our classroom and many families will be able to bring a phot home to show the parent who was not able to attend classes. Plus, it is new technology I need to learn.

Digital cameras are such a great way to reflect on the work that the children are doing each day. It is an essential way to document progress, children's social growth, labeling cubbies/lockers with imigages, share children's activities with parents, and to create a memory book/digital slide show of the fun activities they took part in during the year.
Thank you so much!
We have used Aquila's camera to take "head shots" of the kids and we use those for attendance, graphing and name games. We have shots from special events that we share with parents. We would use a camera that is always in our room to record more daily events and track the progress of our learning. We could illustrate the IB attitudes and atributes. We share our projects with a wider community and use it to connect more with the variety of groups that we are involved with.
I think that documenting classroom activities is not only informative to parents, colleagues, and visiting dignitaries, but it will give us an opportunity to show the cutest infants and toddlers in the building busy at work-- and having a joyful time at it!! We are very excited to have the digital cameras and printers to make the best displays ever!
Thank you so much for the digital camera! Now we won't need to borrow Jodi's personal one! We will use the photos to document and reflect on the work children are doing as well as for games/classroom activities, and to share with parents! Thanks again!
We love to take pictures of our children and families to use in so many ways but that means one of us has to remember to bring our camera to school and then we miss the unexpected. We are super excited to use this gift to update the pictures in our room, to make books about colors, shapes and emotions and to continue to picture sign where things go during clean-up. The ideas are endless! Thanks so much for this gift of opportunity!
A digital camera will be such a welcome addition to our room! There are so many times that we have wanted to share a moment of play (like being covered in flour from the sensory table) or friendship (two little peanuts reading a book together) with moms and dads. This camera will make it much easier to share daily activities with parents. We're very excited! Thank you!!
A digital camera is a great resource for creating visual adaptations and supports for kids in the classroom. Pairing visual cues with verbal cues can help children make sense of where they sit for group, where their lockers are, and what the classroom schedule is. Having a digital camera will also allow us to document and display our classroom community by capturing kids in play, at work, and at special times(halloween or valentine parties or family interaction nights).
Thank You!!
I plan on using the camera to capture children in action. In the moment, whether they are exploring the sensory table or focused on a art project or working together on a cooking project. I think it is a great way to show families that children are always learning.
In room 1A there are a variety of programs. We have a 2's Company classes designed for two year olds in the B-3 program. Parents attend with their child and it is the child's first introduction to group learning. We also have speech and language groups that meet weekly as well as indiviual speech and language therapy sessions. We are delighted to have the gift of a digital camera. We use photographs of the children to label their cubbies, lockers, mats for group and placemats. We also make action figures of the children for pretend play. We write stories about the children using photographs also. We also use photo albums of the children at play for language stimulation. We are so excited to have the camera and printer to use so we no longer need to use our own financial resources and technology. Thanks so much.
We plan to photograph our equipment and toys for labeling purposes and also document the kids at play - we are doing lots of observations and have been using disposable cameras for documentation, so this will be great!
We feel that a picture is worth a thousand words--especially for busy parents who may not take the time to read information about what their child is doing everyday. We post a note by our sign-out sheet everyday telling parents what their child is learning about and why. Unfortunately, we think that many parents are too busy to read it, and we hope to use the camera to capture pictures that parents could quick look at while signing their child out.Thank you!!!
